Workshop Services

Three clearly scoped passes for different states of a mechanical watch. Scope is confirmed in writing before the bench work starts.

Watch cleaning and regulation

Cleaning, Regulation & Fresh Gaskets

Ref. QZ-A · 3–5 working days

A light bench pass for a watch that is broadly healthy but drifting. The watchmaker cleans the exterior, opens the case, checks the movement under magnification without full disassembly, adjusts the regulator against timing machine readings, and renews gaskets.

  • Exterior cleaning
  • Regulation to agreed daily tolerance
  • Caseback and crown gaskets renewed
  • Printed before-and-after rate sheet
Full watch movement service

Full Bench Service with Parts Renewal

Ref. QZ-B · 5–7 weeks

The workshop's standard rebuild for mechanical wristwatches. Movement taken to component level, cleaned across four baths, every wear surface examined. Mainspring, gaskets and worn components renewed. Regulated in six positions on a fourteen-day test.

  • Full disassembly and four-bath cleaning
  • Mainspring and gaskets renewed
  • Six-position timing report
  • 14-day test log included
Archive watch restoration

Archive Restoration Commission

Ref. QZ-C · 12–18 weeks

For pieces of family or historical interest, where the goal is a working watch that still reads as its own age. The workshop writes a proposal, photographs each stage, and asks for written agreement before any surface is touched.

  • Survey and written proposal first
  • Staged photography at each step
  • Matched period strap option
  • Archival record folder on completion

Layer 02 — Advantages

Why Quartzen

Scope Agreed Before Work Begins

Every job starts with a written description of what will be done, at what cost. There are no surprises on the invoice.

Timing Machine Documentation

Rate readings are taken before and after regulation. The printed sheet goes home with the watch as a record of where it stands.

Honest Turnaround Estimates

Timelines are quoted as working ranges, not best-case promises. If something changes mid-bench, the owner is informed first.

Photographic Stage Records

Restoration commissions include photographs at each major stage. Owners know exactly what has been done and why.

Written Consent Before Any Surface Contact

On archival pieces, nothing is polished, re-lumed or refinished without the owner's written agreement. Original patina is a feature, not a flaw.

Clear Parts Accountability

Every renewed component is listed on the final report — mainspring, gaskets, jewels — so the record is complete for any future service.

Layer 03 — Contact

A watch worth wearing is worth servicing properly.

Bring your timepiece in, or call ahead to describe the issue. The workshop will advise which service fits before anything is opened.

Common Questions

How do I know which service my watch needs? +

Bring the watch in or describe its condition by phone. The watchmaker will assess whether it needs a light pass — cleaning and regulation — or a full disassembly. For older or sentimental pieces, a brief survey is done first and a written proposal prepared before any commitment is required.

What happens during a Full Bench Service? +

The movement is taken to individual component level, ultrasonically and chemically cleaned across four separate baths, dried, inspected under magnification and reassembled with fresh lubricants to the manufacturer's specification. The mainspring, gaskets and any visibly worn pivots or jewels are renewed. The calibre is then regulated in six positions and runs on the bench for fourteen days before release.

Will the case and bracelet be polished? +

Not unless you specifically request it. The workshop's default is to return the watch with surfaces exactly as they arrived. Case refinishing is offered as an optional item on the Full Bench Service, and is only carried out with written agreement on archive pieces.

How long does the Archive Restoration Commission take? +

The commission is quoted as 12–18 weeks from the point the written proposal is agreed. Complexity and the need for fabricated parts or specialist partner involvement determine the actual duration. You will be updated at each stage and may pause the commission at any point.

What does the rate sheet show? +

The printed rate sheet records timing machine readings taken before and after the work — amplitude, beat error and daily rate in each measured position. It travels with the watch as an objective record of its running condition. The six-position report for bench services is more detailed, noting each position's variance against the target rate.

What are the workshop's payment terms? +

Payment is settled on collection. For Archive Restoration Commissions, a deposit is required on acceptance of the proposal, with the balance due at completion. Accepted methods are cash, bank transfer and major debit cards. Prices are quoted and invoiced in Malaysian Ringgit.

Is my watch insured while at the workshop? +

The workshop holds care, custody and control coverage for pieces in its possession. The intake record includes a description of the watch and its condition at arrival, which both parties sign. Owners with particularly rare pieces may wish to verify that their own contents or collector's policy remains active during the service period.
